GANE (Growing Australia’s Nature Economy) is an alliance advocating for a strong nature-based economy.
What We Do
We’re working to scale up outcomes for nature, climate, the economy and people. We show how environmental markets reward land stewardship and restore biodiversity while driving climate action and strengthening regional economies.
GANE equips the people who can help grow this part of a nature-based economy with the evidence, credibility and voice to make it happen. We work with government, landholders, environmental organisations, Traditional Owners, investors and the media to build a coordinated advocacy movement.

Our Vision

Our Mission
Who We Are
GANE co-founders Brendan Foran, Alasdair MacLeod and James Schultz have spent their careers proving that a thriving agricultural sector and a healthier environment aren’t competing goals, with leadership roles at Greening Australia, GreenCollar, Macdoch Group, Soils for Life, Landcare Australia and more.
Our broader team combines program delivery, stakeholder engagement, media and governance expertise, driven by Lianne Elliffe, Simon Harris, Kirsty de Garis, Kim Mason, Chris O’Keefe, Leon Cull and Nerida Bradley.
Collectively, we’ve spent decades on Country and in the paddock alongside GANE’s broader coalition, shaping an approach that’s practical, evidence-based and grounded in what’s actually happening and needed across Australia’s unique landscapes.

Why We Exist

Why a Nature Economy
Repairing Australia’s land, water and wildlife at scale isn’t cheap, and no government or charity can carry the bill or the work alone.
To grow the resources to do this, we believe environmental markets are the fairest answer we’ve found: major emitters pay for verified nature repair to help meet their climate obligations, channelling money to farmers, Traditional Owners and regional communities doing the repair work.
These markets are already working. They’re rigorously audited, independently regulated and bringing real money through the farm gate and back onto Country. But they’ll only keep working and growing if Australians trust them and back them, which means cutting through the jargon, telling the real stories, and standing up to those who’d rather block progress than keep moving forward.

Charter
The GANE Supporter Charter is a shared declaration behind Australia’s nature economy, signed by farmers, Traditional Owners, scientists, conservationists, investors and businesses. It sets out the principles we stand on: nature and prosperity belong together, evidence guides decisions, partnership beats polarisation, integrity earns trust, and regional Australia should share in the opportunity it helps create.

The work starts now
This isn’t a wait-and-see moment. The land needs urgent repair, the people doing the work need support, and the economy needs to catch up.
